Museum Archive: Luhr Jensen ​Les Davis Hotrod, 3/16oz Gold fishing spoon #14589

Solid brass construction provides a substantial 3/16oz (5g) weight to this vintage spoon, which was originally marketed for spinning, casting, and trolling. This particular find, cataloged under product code 14589, hails from the period before the Les Davis Fishing Tackle Co. of Tacoma, Washington, was integrated into the Luhr Jensen brand. The gold finish is accented by a distinct fluorescent orange strike dot near the tail, a traditional visual trigger intended for species ranging from trout and bass to steelhead and pike. Measuring 1 1/2" (3.5cm) in length, the lure is securely housed in its original orange and white blister pack, which prominently displays Patent No. 2,855,735. This specimen is unused, appearing exactly as it did when it left the American factory. The reverse side of the card still features the vintage mail-in coupon for a free mini catalog, a nostalgic detail for any collector of Pacific Northwest tackle history.
