Bass Buster
The Bass Buster Company was founded in 1955 by the Ward family in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, USA. The company's founder was Virgil Ward, a prominent angler, entrepreneur, and host of popular fishing television programs.
Ward established the company with the goal of mass-producing innovative lures that combined the benefits of a jig and a spinner.
Bass Buster's primary contribution to fishing history is the invention of the Beetle Spin lure.
The Beetle Spin is one of the simplest and most effective lures ever made. It consists of a painted jig head (often with a rubber body imitating a grub or insect) to which a spinning blade is attached via a safety-pin style wire arm.
This design gave the lure bright flash, powerful vibration, and most importantly excellent weedless properties in vegetation and submerged structure. Due to its simplicity and effectiveness, the Beetle Spin quickly became a bestseller, ideal for catching Bass, Perch, Crappie, and Walleye.
Legacy: The Beetle Spin is one of the most imitated lures of all time, and its design has become the standard for an entire class of jig-spinners widely used today.
