Captain Mikes Aqua Dream

Captain Mike's Aqua Dream
The History: Born on the Gulf Coast Flats
Captain Mike's Aqua Dream was founded by Mike Vantrease (known as Captain Mike), a lifelong angler and fishing guide operating primarily in the shallow, clear waters (or "flats") of the Gulf Coast, especially in Florida. Frustrated with the quality and effectiveness of mass-produced lures for his local target species Redfish, Speckled Trout, and Snook Captain Mike began customizing and perfecting his own jigs and soft plastics.
The company was built on the premise that the highest quality components and meticulous, hand-painted details produce superior results on wary saltwater fish. While it is a smaller, niche brand compared to Rapala or Daiwa, its reputation is immense among dedicated inshore anglers who value gear designed by someone who lives and breathes the local environment. Captain Mike's lures are considered premium, specialized tools for sight-fishing and targeting aggressive coastal predators.
The Lure Philosophy: Custom Color and Precision Action
Captain Mike's Aqua Dream focuses heavily on two main types of tackle: custom jig heads and the soft plastic bodies and popping corks to go with them.
Hand-Painted Jig Heads: The hallmark of the brand is its attention to jig head detail. Many of their jigs feature complex, hand-painted finishes, hyper-realistic 3D eyes, and durable epoxy coatings. These custom paint jobs mimic the specific colors of local forage (like shrimp, minnows, and crabs) that are crucial for catching pressured fish.
The "Aqua Dream" Soft Plastics: Their soft plastic lure bodies are designed to pair perfectly with their jigs, offering a specific profile and action often a paddle-tail or shad shape that creates subtle, enticing vibrations. They specialize in colors that perform optimally in the often-clear, shallow water of the flats.
Specialization (Popping Corks): The brand also excels in accessories like the Popping Cork. These are specialized bobbers used in conjunction with a jig or soft plastic lure. When pulled, the cork creates a loud "pop" or "chug" on the water's surface, mimicking the sound of a shrimp being eaten or escaping, which draws Redfish and Trout to the bait.
