Museum Archive: Vintage Eppinger Dardevle Spinnie, 3/16oz fishing spoon #15409

A bold white stripe against a deep black background defines the finish of this Eppinger classic. Measuring 1 1/2" (3.5 cm) and weighing 3/16 oz (6 g), this specimen is a prime example of the 15409 product line. The front surface features the familiar devil head logo stamped into the paint, while the reverse side is clearly marked "DARDEVLE MIDGET U.S.A." in clean lettering. This specific piece is in 4/5 condition, exhibiting minor signs of use such as small paint chips near the line tie and hook eyelet. Since Lou Eppinger began manufacturing these in Detroit around 1906, the proprietary dies have maintained the specific oblong, concave shape seen here. The hardware consists of a sturdy split ring and a sharp treble hook, suggesting it was well-cared for in a previous owner's tackle box. Because it features a nickel-colored back, it is particularly suited for clear water casting. The metal body provides enough weight for accurate placement even in light wind.
