Tipping the scales at a substantial 2 1/2 oz (68 g), this mechanical marvel represents a fascinating era of early 20th-century European tackle engineering. Produced by the German firm Knowles between 1903 and 1918, the Knowles Automatic Striker #7 features an innovative design based on a 1906 patent. The sleek nickel body spans 5 1/2" (14 cm) and houses a clever spring-loaded mechanism intended to secure the hookset during a strike. On the underside, the distinctive longitudinal slot is visible where the large single hook rests before deployment. The hardware remains in remarkable shape, from the heavy-duty barrel swivel at the nose to the sharp, well-formed barb. Cataloged under product code 19610, this specimen is in exceptional 5/5 condition, retaining a clean and bright metallic luster across its entire surface. The heavy gauge of the steel and the solid construction suggest it was built for tackling large predatory species in deep water.
