Museum Archive: Vintage Marathon (with sonic blades), 2/5oz Nickel / Green fishing spoon #10006

Green paint and a diamond-patterned holographic prism sticker distinguish the topside of this vintage Wisconsin-made spoon. Weighing in at 2/5 oz (12 g), this 2 1/4" (6 cm) lure features the innovative addition of two small, elongated sonic blades attached to the rear split rings. These silver-colored blades provide extra flash near the treble hook, intended to mimic the tail fin of a baitfish while helping to obscure the hardware. On the reverse, the polished nickel surface bears the classic MARATHON stamp, a hallmark of the Marathon Bait Company, which produced tackle from 1929 to 1979. The nickel plating remains bright and reflective, showing the quality craftsmanship expected from mid-century American-made tackle.
