Museum Archive: Vintage Marathon (with sonic blades), 2/5oz Frog / Nickel fishing spoon #7175

Vibrant Frog patterning consisting of bold black and yellow spots over a green base defines the face of this 2/5 oz (12 g) casting spoon. Identified by product code 7175, this specimen features two small, silver-finished "sonic blades" attached via split rings near the treble hook. These specialized teardrop blades are designed to offer visual flash and vibration while partially masking the terminal hardware. The lure measures 2 1/4" (6 cm) in length and carries a polished nickel finish on its reverse side, where the Marathon brand name is stamped into the metal. Produced by the Marathon Bait Company, a Wisconsin manufacturing giant from 1929 to 1979, this lure remains in 4/5 condition, showing well-preserved paint and clean metal surfaces. A simple eyelet at the narrow end provides the connection point for casting or trolling, while the broad, rounded tail holds the split ring for the hook assembly.
