Museum Archive: Vintage Marathon (with sonic blades), 2/5oz Nickel / Red fishing spoon #8682

Nickel-plated surfaces and a vibrant red holographic insert characterize this 12 g (2/5 oz) spoon from the Marathon Bait Company. Two slender, movable sonic blades are attached via split rings at the rear, creating light reflection and masking the sharp treble hook. Measuring 2 1/4" (6 cm) in length, the metal body features a clear "MARATHON" stamp on the concave reverse, a hallmark of the Wisconsin-based production line that spanned from 1929 to 1979. This specimen, identified by product code 8682, presents in a condition rating of 5/5, maintaining the bright finish on both the primary body and the secondary blades. The addition of these sonic blades is a technical feature intended to simulate the visual profile of a baitfish's tail fin during casting or trolling. The red scales are well-preserved, and the hardware shows no signs of aging.
