Museum Archive: Vintage Mepps Aglia 1, 1/8oz Gold spinning lure #7294

Engraved on the polished gold blade, the "MADE IN FRANCE" stamp marks the heritage of this classic Mepps Aglia 1, cataloged as product code 7294. At 1/8oz (3.5g) and 2" (5cm) in length, the lure features a solid brass body with four deeply recessed grooves accented with red paint. This particular specimen is in 5/5 condition, retaining a brilliant shine on its gold-plated blade and a vibrant red sleeve over the treble hook shank. The blade is clearly stamped with the '1' size indicator and 'AGLIA' lettering, mounted on a stainless steel wire using a traditional clevis for immediate rotation. While the components were manufactured in France, the assembly took place in the USA, a hallmark of the Mepps distribution era that began in the 1960s. The weighted brass torso provides enough mass for accurate casting into light currents where the wide blade generates constant pressure against the line.
