Myran — Classic Swedish Spinners & Lures

Myran — Classic Swedish Spinners & Lures

The origins of Myran trace back to the spring of 1950, when Paul Johansson crafted his very first lure from a standard table spoon. This practical experiment led to the establishment of his firm, Paul's Sport Depot, in the small Swedish locality of Simlångsdalen. The young enterprise found its first major success with the Myrspinner, a spinner featuring interchangeable blades. Johansson subsequently patented and registered his spinner designs under the Myrans name, laying the foundation for what would become a highly conservative and respected name in European lure making.

A commitment to traditional manufacturing methods has defined the brand's journey through ownership transitions. In 2001, Björn Elmervik Johansson acquired the company, ensuring that the original machinery and assembly principles remained untouched. His son, Markus Elmervik, dedicated over 22 years to the factory floor before becoming the head of production. Even after the brand's acquisition on October 1, 2024, by the Danish firm Nordic Fieldsport—headed by Erik and Henrik Svendsen—the decision was made to keep all production strictly within Sweden.

While many manufacturers relocated their operations to Southeast Asia, Myran maintained its workshop in Huskvarna, Sweden. Here, spinners are assembled by hand using the same tools and techniques developed in the 1950s. Beyond terminal tackle, the Huskvarna facility has traditionally produced dedicated plastic fly and spinner boxes. Looking forward, the product range is expanding under the new ownership, with rod series like the Eciton and Myrmecia scheduled for introduction starting in 2026.

The structural signature of these Swedish spinners lies in their heavy, compact bodies—often pear-shaped or cylindrical with machined grooves—and either inline construction or blades mounted on reliable clevises. This design ensures stable performance in fast currents and excellent casting distance. Among other items, the manufacturer's catalog features the Panter, a spinner known for immediate blade rotation available in weights from 3 to 20 grams. For trout and perch, the Toni and Toni Z models, equipped with dressed treble hooks, are highly utilized, particularly in 5, 7, 12, and 18-gram sizes.

The range accommodates various water conditions and target species with models such as the Wipp, which features a wide blade perforated with sound holes and is produced in weights ranging from 3 to 15 grams. Anglers also find the Agat, characterized by its segmented body, and the Mira, another heavy-bodied spinner fitted with a dressed hook for long-distance casting. For heavier targets like salmon, sea trout, and large pike, the heavier Tuna Lax series reaches up to 30 grams. The selection is further complemented by models such as the Akka, Sting, Lilla My, and the Duri Spoon.
