Stamped clearly into the silver-toned metal reverse are the words "DEVLE-DOG 5300 DETROIT U.S.A.", marking its origin in the historic Michigan tackle manufacturing scene. The front face of this casting spoon features a striking split-tone finish, where polished nickel meets a vibrant, textured red pattern that catches the light. This specific specimen, identified by product code 19211, measures 2" (5.1 cm) in length and weighs 1/3 oz (9.4 g). It comes rigged with a sharp, bronze-finished treble hook attached by a sturdy split ring at the rear. The condition of the lure is exceptional, showing well-defined stamping and clear, bright coloring on the face, warranting a rating of 5/5. Because of the Detroit stamping, we can place its production prior to the company's 1959 move to Dearborn. These spoons were often included in aviation survival kits during wartime due to their reliable performance for casting and trolling. The proprietary dies used for this oblong, concave shape remain a signature of the Eppinger brand, which began with Lou Eppinger's basement workshop in 1906.
