Museum Archive: Vintage Johnson Silver Minnow Weedless, Nickel, 2/5oz (12g), #24548

Stamped from a copper and zinc alloy, this spoon features a distinct thickness in the center that helps maintain an upright position during the retrieve. This particular Johnson Silver Minnow Weedless, finished in a bright nickel plating, carries a 5/5 condition rating indicating it is exceptionally well-preserved. Weighing 2/5 oz (12 g) and measuring 2 1/4" (6 cm), the lure includes the signature wire weed guard designed to navigate heavy cover without snagging. Unlike modern iterations, this specific piece #24548 originates from the classic USA production era. The wide spoon body is engineered to produce a 270-degree wobble, throwing flashes downward and to the sides where predators are most likely to strike. This design helps minimize line twist by maintaining a stable, rhythmic motion in the water. Often paired with a pork rind trailer for added visual appeal, the spoon’s movement remains consistent even when tipped with extra bulk. The hook is integrated directly into the body to ensure it stays point-up, effectively mimicking the profile of a small baitfish weaving through lily pads or grass.
