Museum Archive: Vintage Smithwick Suspending Rattlin’ Rogue, 1/2oz Pike fishing lure #8906

A classic Pike pattern featuring dark vertical bars over a tan-brown gradient adorns the 5 1/2" (14 cm) body of this vintage lure. Cataloged under product code 8906, the Smithwick Suspending Rattlin’ Rogue is designed for neutral buoyancy, allowing it to hang in the strike zone when cast to depths of 1 ft (0.3 m) to 6.5 ft (2 m). For trolling applications, the clear diving lip takes the lure down into the 10 ft (3 m) to 13 ft (4 m) range. This specimen is in 5/5 condition, retaining a sharp finish with its characteristic white and black eyes and a single red strike dot positioned near the tail hook hanger. The three treble hooks remain securely attached to the 1/2 oz (14 g) frame, which houses an internal rattle system typical of Smithwick's vintage production.
