Museum Archive: Vintage Eppinger Dardevle Devle-Dog 5500, 3/4oz Honeycomb Lime fishing spoon #17730

Stamped clearly into the polished metal backside is the identification "DEVLE-DOG 5500 DETROIT U.S.A.", marking its heritage from the Eppinger manufacturing shop. This 3/4oz (21g) spoon features the Honeycomb Lime colorway, a vibrant green perimeter surrounding a white and silver hexagonal scale pattern across the face. Centered on the concave surface is the classic devil head graphic. Measuring 2 1/2" (6.5cm), the metal body shows some gentle wear consistent with a 4/5 condition rating, including small paint chips around the edges and light scuffing on the logo. The hardware includes a sturdy split ring and a silver-toned treble hook. This specimen, listed under Product Code 17730, is a solid example of the heavy-duty casting lures Lou Eppinger began producing in Detroit over a century ago. The teardrop shape and thick metal construction are hallmarks of the Devle-Dog series, intended for casting and trolling applications.
