Museum Archive: Vintage Johnson Silver Minnow Weedless, 1/3oz silver fishing spoon #24376

Silver-plated for a flash that outshines standard chrome, this vintage Johnson Silver Minnow Weedless is a classic example of Louis Johnson’s 1920 invention. Weighing 1/3oz (9g) and measuring 2 1/4" (5.5cm), this specific specimen carries product code 24376 and was manufactured in the USA. The thick copper and zinc alloy spoon is designed to keep the integrated guarded hook facing upward, a technical solution for navigating heavy vegetation without snagging. Unlike modern versions, this earlier American-made piece features the genuine silver plating that produces a distinct white-bright reflection underwater. The metal weed guard remains straight and functional, characteristic of its well-preserved 5/5 condition. The spoon's taper is specifically balanced to maintain its orientation during the retrieve, which also allows for the addition of trailers like pork rinds without disrupting the balance.
