Museum Archive: Vintage Mepps Aglia 5, 1/2oz Nickel spinning lure #0207

Stamped clearly into the nickel-finished blade is the "MEPPS 5 AGLIA" hallmark, identifying this classic French-designed spinner. Weighing 1/2oz (14g) and measuring 3 1/4" (8cm) in length, this specimen features the iconic Aglia blade shape mounted on a brass clevis for smooth rotation. The body is built with four graduated beads in a bright yellow finish with orange-sunburst highlights, leading to a vibrant red sleeve on the treble hook. In 5/5 condition, the nickel plating remains bright and the painted components are clean and well-preserved. Cataloged under product code 0207, this lure represents the largest of the standard Aglia sizes, reflecting the assembly history where components produced in France were finalized in the USA. The heavy-duty wire construction and traditional hardware arrangement are consistent with the designs pioneered by Andre Meulnart in 1938.
