A weight of 1/2 oz (14 g) provides plenty of casting distance for the Mepps Aglia 5, a staple for those chasing larger pike or bass. This particular specimen, cataloged under product code 1719, has a total length of 3 1/4" (8 cm) and showcases the traditional brass finish on the blade and beads. Looking closely at the blade, you can see the clear "MEPPS 5 AGLIA" stamp along with the "BRITISH FRENCH PATENT U.S. PEND" markings, a nod to its origins with Andre Meulnart in France. The construction involves a series of four graduated brass beads threaded onto the wire shaft above a large treble hook. It was assembled in the USA from French-made components, maintaining the quality standards collectors expect from the Mepps brand. The lure is in 4/5 condition, showing well-preserved surfaces and sharp stamping on the metal. The wide blade is designed for rotation upon retrieve, a mechanical trait that has made this model a favorite since its invention in 1938.
