Museum Archive: Vintage Mepps Comet 5, 1/2oz Silver spinning lure #1097

Stamped markings on the silver-finished blade including "BRITISH PATENT" and "BREVETE FRANCE" provide a clear link to the French heritage of this Mepps Comet 5. Three large beads with weathered red paint form the weighted body of this 1/2 oz (13 g) lure, accented by a small brass bead and a gold conical spacer near the clevis. Measuring a total of 3 1/4" (8 cm), the spinner includes a treble hook finished with a bright red sleeve for added visibility. The specimen, listed as Product Code 1097, carries a condition rating of 4/5 due to light paint loss on the beads, though the silver plating on the blade remains well-preserved and the text "COMET-5" is sharply defined.
