Hydro Spoon

The Hydro Spoon is a specialized plastic weedless spoon, developed for conditions where traditional metal spoons often fail due to snags. By utilizing a durable plastic body instead of metal, the design achieves a distinct buoyancy and action. This construction allows the lure to remain effective in specific environments that would typically compromise standard tackle.
The lure’s functionality is defined by its rigid anti-snag configuration and precise balancing. A single hook is fixed directly into the body, allowing the Hydro Spoon to consistently land and track with the hook point facing upward. A signature white silicone skirt provides additional vibration and mimics live prey, while simultaneously obscuring the hook during the retrieve.
Designed as a versatile tool for heavy cover, the Hydro Spoon excels in areas with dense vegetation and submerged structure. It is built to be worked through lily pads and weeds, as well as around timber and sunken branches. In shallow water, the plastic body enables the lure to stay high in the water column, where it can be operated as a glider.
The production range featured two primary sizes for various predatory species. The Hydro Spoon Jr. measures 5.5 cm and was intended for perch and pike, while the standard 7.0 cm Hydro Spoon targeted pike and largemouth bass. While Hydro Lures, Inc. no longer manufactures these items, they have become vintage pieces of interest for collectors of American fishing history and anglers employing classic bass fishing methods.
